Our heart tin wedding favours have been our most-ordered candle since 2020. They've gone out to weddings, christenings, hen parties and birthdays and we take pride in making each one.
But we'd been quietly looking for a way to make them better.
Personalisation had always meant printing your names and date onto a label, then applying it by hand. It works, and it looks lovely. It also has limits. A label sits on top of the surface. Colour is restricted. And there's only so much detail you can hold on something that small.
We wanted the personalisation to feel like part of the candle rather than something added to it.
What we found
UV printing puts the design directly onto the surface — the glass, or the lid of the tin. The ink is cured as it prints, so it bonds rather than sitting on a layer above. Run your thumb across one and you feel the glass or the metal, not an edge.
That one change fixed the thing we'd been chewing over. It also opened doors we weren't expecting.
Colour
We were no longer limited to what a small label could carry. Full colour, printed clean and sharp — the orchids, the daisies, the rose petals, the boho florals that run through our wedding candles now. Designs that wrap around the glass rather than sitting in a square on the front.
It's why the range looks the way it does. That wasn't a design decision first. It came out of the printing.
Photographs
The one we're most pleased about.
We can print a photograph straight onto the glass, or onto a tin lid. Not a sticker of a photo — the image itself, on the surface, in colour. It's what makes the remembrance candles work, and the keepsake lids, and the photo favours couples send us for their wedding tables.
For a memorial candle in particular, that matters. A photograph of someone you've lost, printed onto something you light and keep, is a different object to a label on a jar.
What it let us make
Once you can print the surface itself, the surface is the only limit.
Wedding candles — names, dates, initials, a design that runs around the glass. Both sides printed as standard, so there's a message on the back as well as the front.
Wedding favours — the same printing on a smaller scale. Names and a date, printed onto the tin lid or the glass rather than onto a label.
Party favours — birthdays, christenings, baby showers, hen parties. The same printing, different occasion.
Tins — what we can fit on a lid depends on the size, so ask us and we'll tell you honestly what will work.
Vessels — we're always looking for new ones and always adding. Frosted glass, clear glass, jars, tins in different shapes and sizes. Each takes the print a little differently, which is half the interest of it. Frosted glass holds it best, which is why so much of the range sits on it.
Bespoke — logos, a hand-drawn sketch, a photograph, a piece of someone's handwriting. Send us the artwork and we'll print it. If it needs adjusting to sit properly on the glass we'll do that, and show you how it looks before anything goes to print.
This is the part we enjoy most. If you've an idea, send it over.
Where they've ended up
The favours have travelled further than we expected.
Weddings and christenings, of course. Hen parties, baby showers, big birthdays.
Remembrance favours too, when a family wants to give each person something to take home.
What it means when you order
You send us your wording. We set it out, check it, and print it. If a name or a date doesn't look right, we come back to you rather than guess.
On the glass candles we print both sides as standard — your personalisation on the front, and a message of your choosing on the back, at no extra cost. On the tins it depends on the size, so ask us and we'll tell you what will fit. Either way, it's only possible because we're printing the surface itself.
There is still one label, on the base. That's the safety information, and it's required by law on every candle sold in the UK. It stays.
Everything is still hand-poured to order in our Cotswolds studio, in natural wax with a cotton wick. That part hasn't changed and won't.
Have a look
The full range is in the shop — wedding candles, wedding favours, party favours, engagement, birthday and remembrance.
If you're planning a wedding and aren't sure what suits, or you want something bespoke, message us. We're a small studio, so you'll be talking to the person who makes them.
